The Writer

Every blog has a writer.

The writer of this blog happens

to be Andrew Harmon

Andrew Harmon
is obsessed with stories

I’ve been obsessed with stories my whole life. As a kid, I’d withhold details about my day until such a time that those details made a good story. Much to my mother’s chagrin, this could be weeks or months later. But timing is every thing to a good story.  In college I would diagram the narrative structure of the movies I watched… just for fun. I am a full-on nerd when it comes to great storytelling.

Director. Writer. Brand Consultant.

Creative

With a film degree in hand, I sensibly went on to work in the world of live theater for the past decade. I’ve directed and produced concerts, musicals and touring productions.

As the creative director for Thorn Productions, I set the path for performers and technicians to utilize their skills to tell a compelling and cohesive story. In this show, skills like circus acrobatics, modern dance, jujitsu, video projection and leather work all blend into a seamless experience for the audience.

As a writer, I’ve produced original work for both stage and screen. I’ve also worked as a story consultant and script doctor for those working to bring their own work to life.

Business

On days when I feel like sporting a dapper jacket and tie, I also weaponize my story skills as a brand consultant.

Through clarity-focused branding insights, I’ve bolstered small businesses and non-profits alike, with clients ranging from financial planners to cosmetics companies.

(Here’s a freebie: When customers see how you fit into their personal narrative, they’ll just want to come to you. This builds loyal customers and lowers your marketing budget. What else could you want?)

Life

A key part of telling a great story is living one.

I have the great joy of being married to Hannah Marie Harmon, who is a talented stage actress. As such, we travel to where the work is… which is everywhere. Our troubadour lifestyle has led us to live all over the country and let us experience a wide variety of places and people.

My office is a rotating landscape of coffee shops and cafés, each with its own unique cast of characters. It can be easy to get stuck in your own story. But when you travel like this, empathy for others and a true understanding of their stories becomes a beautiful necessity.
